I was invited on an all expense paid trip by Disney to attend the Red Carpet Black Panther World Premiere. This Black Panther movie review is 100% my own.
When I first saw Captain America: Civil War, I instantly fell in love with the Black Panther. Maybe it was his accent, his strength, his determination, or his love, respect and admiration for his father. Perhaps I just had that gut feeling that there were greet things to come and that he would be the one to lead the way. Last week I was fortunate enough to be invited to walk the red carpet at the Black Panther World Premiere and see Black Panther on the big screen so that I could bring you this spoiler-free Black Panther movie review.
Black Panther Movie Review
Who is the Black Panther? According to Marvel his name is T’Challa and he is the “heir to the centuries-old ruling dynasty of the African kingdom Wakanada, and the ritual leader of its Panther Clan.” In Black Panther, T’Challa is seeking to bring down Klaw, his fathers murderer. During his attempt to capture Klaw, he encounters another enemy, Erik Killmonger – one that is familiar to him through an accessory his recognizes as belonging to his own family. T’Challa also uncovers truths and hidden lies that his father tried to hide, things that have brought unwelcome strife upon Wakanda.

The Black Panther, along with the Warriors of Wakanda – the Dora Milaje, a specially trained force of women that protect the kingdom of Wakanda, alongside Nakia, T’Challa’s love interest and Wakanda’s very own spy – set off on a mission to restore order and bring peace and security to Wakanda. Erik Killmonger is on a mission of his own, to overthrow the Black Panther, lay claim to the thrown and get his hands on their most precious resource – Vibranium.
Vibranium has allowed Wakanda to become to the richest and most technologically advanced country in the world. The Five Tribes of Wakanda don’t want anyone to get their hands on Vibranium, with each tribe doing it’s part to keep Wakanda and it’s Vibranium out of the hands of the rest of the world. The movie is phenomenal and I have to stop myself here to avoid giving away any spoilers.
The sets, the costumes, the cast, the EVERYTHING – it all works and flows so magically together – pulling you right in. By the end of the movie I was literally sitting at the edge of my seat. Keep your eyes on the screen for scene stealer Shuri – T’Challa’s little sister and the brains behind the technology of the precious Vibranium. The movie is strong in the female empowerment department and teaches about the importance of protecting family, tribe and nation. I felt a lot of pride walking out of the theatre after seeing the level of respect for women in the nation of Wakanda. I’m quite ready to pack my bags and move there – WAKANDA FOREVER.

The film is directed by Ryan Coogler and produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore, Jeffrey Chernov and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Ryan Coogler & Joe Robert Cole wrote the screenplay.
